Work & Play

This weekend consisted of work and play.

Friday night we had friends over for dinner. I made Duck with Walnut Sherry Vinaigrette, Braised Endives, and a Potato-Kale Galette. Homemade Praline-Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert.

Saturday we worked in the yard, trimming branches from trees, borrowing hedge-trimmers for our front bushes, and bagging up tons of leaves. We had ambitions of moving back our wood pile to the property line, but that hasn't happened yet. Saturday night we babysat our favorite almost-one-year-old and took him with us to dinner at our friends' house where he was perfectly content and surprisingly unfussy the entire night. But of course, he was with "Aunt" Carey. :)

Today we went to church then came home and made lunch together; wheat capellini with roasted cherub tomatoes, Parmesan, basil, with a splash of chardonnay and white wine vinegar. We also made some fried mozzarella sticks to munch on. I went grocery shopping and Chris continued working in the yard, cleaning out gutters, bagging more leaves, hauling bags to the curb. I came home, took a nap, and installed two lights; one outdoor and one above our kitchen sink. I'm getting good at connected black to black and white to white.

Back to work tomorrow. Tuesday is National Neighbors Night Out, and I will be catering for our street's festivities.

Lastly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sweet friend, Jessica. She lives in Michigan and I miss her terribly. I was in her wedding almost 2 years ago, but before then, we hadn't seen each other since high school!
