We had our initial meeting tonight with the case manager from a nearby agency to become foster-parents! This is something that we've been wanting to do for some time now and have been praying over the decision. We continue to move forward unless we see God giving us any red flags.
Why? We desire to live a radical life. Maybe someday that will mean living overseas and doing something "more" extreme, but for now, where God has us, we want to use the resources He's given us to bless others. We don't want to settle for this normal American lifestyle that has become comfortable so quickly and easily. I think it's one of Satan's greatest tactics. So while we are in a season that we have a home, cars, jobs, vacation, and "a white picket fence" (actually a rusty metal one), we might as well...share the well.
Why not? If our calling as Christians is to serve the needy, poor, widowed, and orphaned...who better than children in our own city who need security, love, stability, and comfort? Goodness gracious, we have two spare rooms in our house without any bodies sleeping in them at night.
I get pretty excited when I think of filling our home with little friends who need hugs, consistent meals, a bedtime story, playtime outdoors, and someone to just think highly of them. And to think that I get to be on the front line and to shelter them during the storms in their lives. And to pray a new destiny over their lives. Yep, that's pretty exciting.

that's really cool. I remember listening to stories from a co-worker who did that with his wife. He would always say that he would get calls at like 2 in the morning from the police stating we have some kids that need a temporary place to stay until there parents get cleaned up or get out of jail or something. The children minds are so impressionable when they walk in the door. My hat goes off to the two of you!
That's so awesome Carey! I know what you mean about wanting to not get too comfortable... and being willing to jump in and be the hands and feet of Jesus. We'll be praying for you, Chris, and the little ones! :)
